Chapter One

Felix was restless. He had tossed and turned all night and still couldn’t get settled. His cousin Alba had just gotten home with his one night hook up and they were both going at it. Felix pulled the sheets of his bed up to his chin, as he listened to the grunts and moans. Alba’s bedroom was right above his in the small house. Sometimes when he was lonely he didn’t mind the sound and would pretend it was him up there pleasuring someone. But tonight wasn’t the night for that. He needed to get to sleep; he had graduation rehearsals and his last day of high school in the morning.
The 17 year old quietly ran his hands around under the sheets of his bed searching for his phone and found it hiding under his pillow. Scrolling through his phone book he highlighted and stared at the name ‘Erin’ for several seconds before clicking it and bringing his phone to his ear and listened to the ring. He really hated to disturb her at this time of night but she always managed to make him comfortable and able to relax when he’s stressed out.
“Hello? Felix what’s up”, a sleepy female voice groaned then gave a small cough into the phone.
“Uh”, he hesitated, “Sorry for waking you but can I come over. I can’t sleep and Alba brought home a screamer tonight.” He smiled in the dark to himself as his face heated itself from embarrassment.
“Y-yeah sure, just um…text me when you’re outside and I’ll let you in”, Erin spoke in a groggy tone as she sat up in bed and rubbed her eye with her fingers then pushed her messy hair out her face and ran her hand through her hair trying to smooth it all down.
“Alright, be there in a bit”, he softly said into the speaker of the phone before he let out a tired yawn and hung up then swung his left leg out of bed followed by his right leg encased in a heavy brace.
He was born with a lame leg, his father being a doctor and his mother a nurse had both of course consented to allowing him to have surgery on it when he was a proper age which is when they found about the bone disease. They broke his leg to try and fix it but because of the disease the bones didn’t heal straight. His foot was bent at the ankle inward, causing him to walk on the side of his foot and cause him other painful issues. So through most of his childhood he was tramped in a wheelchair when his leg bothered him enough. He was also a stubborn child and would hop around or use his cane or crutches to move around, refusing to be confined to a chair or seen as disabled.
When he got into High School there was a new plan to fix his leg. They would break the bones and set them then screw his leg into a brace. Several exhausting surgeries later here he was walking a round on both legs though his right one was still shorter than the other by half an inch but he could live with that.
Felix moved out of his bedroom and across the hall into his bathroom and closed the door behind him and flipped on the light. He scrunched up his face as he let out a powerful yawn in front of the mirror then stared tiredly at his reflection, brushing his cat like shiny, black, static hair out of his face to see himself better. The 17 year old turned on the water in the sink and splashed cool water on his bronze Hispanic face then looked back at himself. He wasn’t hot like his cousin Alba but he was considered adorable. Probably because of his jewel like blue eye that shined against his face. His orange-ish brown eye sat dully in his head compared to his blue eye.
Dipping his tooth brush under the still running water he squirted some toothpaste on it and began to scrub his teeth, not wanting to show up on Erin’s front door without a little grooming. He quickly ran a brush through his hair and let it fall into the style he always wore it which was nothing in particular just the way it grows.
He clicked off the bathroom light after he was groomed and had grabbed the things he needed out the bathroom he went back to his room and threw them in a bag that he pulled out from his closet. Felix being slightly OCD grabbed some clothes off the hangers in his neat closet and folded them perfectly, the way he likes it and placed them in his bag and zipped it up.
Felix slung his school bag on his back then his over night back over his shoulder and slipped his phone and wallet into the pocket of his sweat pants and grabbed a pair of shoes to slip on before padding out his room quietly and out the front door. He threw his stuff in the back of his beloved silver Mini Cooper with black bonnet stripes. His mother’s girlfriend, NiniAnna; a crazy biker chick, had got him the car as a graduation gift. Oliver, what he calls his car, purred to him as he brought it to life.
Erin didn’t live far from him; short 20 minute drive through the quiet night brought him to his friend’s house. They had been friends since middle school in his mind they were siblings almost, though all through High School people mistaken them as a couple due to the fact that they did spend quite a bit of time together.
Parking in his friend’s driveway next to her blue Jeep, he pulled out his phone that lit up the inside of his car as he texted her then waited.
The porch light flickered on and Erin popped her head out the door. She had been waiting for Felix in the living room. After he had called she had gussied up and curled up on her couch and quietly watched the boring midnight shows they played on television while she waited for her phone to light up with a text.
Felix got out of his car and grabbed his stuff and slipped inside and flashed her a smile. Erin turned off the porch light and locked the door after he was inside, her cheeks slightly pink from his dazzling smile.
“I thought I was going to spend tonight alone. Brittany was going to come over but she came down with something and Damien wouldn’t let her out the house to spread her germs”, Erin put on a playful smile as she ushered him up to her room.
Felix nodded as he listen the sat his bags down on the floor of Erin’s room and sat on her bed and kicked his shoes off. He didn’t know Brittany all too well except that she was kind of crazy in an amusing way and her brother was a babe. He had, had a secret crush on Damien since freshman year. He was kind of a shy boy, the opposite of his little sister. The 17 year old boy still hadn’t even told Erin how he felt about Damien or boys in general. Felix was still a little confused about how he felt.
It wasn’t that he didn’t like girls it was kind of like choosing between your two favorite deserts. In his case chocolate cake compared to red velvet cake. It’s not that he doesn’t like chocolate cake, he loves, but he prefers to have red velvet cake if it was an option. Which is kind of how he felt, there wasn’t a whole lot of open gay people at their school so he kept his feelings a secret not wanting to be alone.
Erin quietly stared at Felix, feeling him over with her eyes as he sat on her bed looking distracted. She quietly glided over and sat down next to him and gently bit her lower lip as she stared at her floor. Erin felt like she had wasted so much time, it was the end of the year and she still didn’t know how Felix felt about her. She had to know. Glancing at him she quietly called his name.
Lured to the sound of his own name Felix slowly turned his head just in time to see Erin’s face coming towards his and feeling her lips brush against his own. He closed his eyes and accepted her kiss and pulled her into him.
Erin smiled into the kiss as she mentally did a victory dance. Though her dance soon became interrupted like the floor had opened out sending her flying down into a hole of darkness as Felix pushed her away as he realized this isn’t what he wanted. It wasn’t that he didn’t like Erin, he loved her. But like a sister, he had no intimate feelings for her, he didn’t spend nights dreaming about her the way he did when stray thoughts of Damien slipped into his head or when Alba was banging away with his one night stand.
“Erin…we… we can’t do this”, Felix manages to get out as he held her by the shoulders then looked away trying to summon the words to say to her.
The 17 year old girl looked at the boy sitting on her bed, holding her by the shoulders and wordlessly moved her own mouth before slapping his arms away and squeezing her eyes shut tightly to prevent tears from escaping in front of him as she leaped off the bed and ran into her bathroom, slamming the door behind her.
Felix stared breathlessly after her before coming to his senses and running after her and begins banging on the door, “I’m so Erin! I didn’t mean to hurt you. I’m so sorry. Please open the door”, he pleaded as he twisted the door knob.
Erin just sat on the floor of the bathroom crying quietly as she dug a razor blade into her arm, clenching her jaws as the blood blossoms up from beneath her skin and dribble down her arm.
After aggressively turning the knob enough it broke off in his hand and he kneeled down and peered into the bathroom through the hole and gasped at what he saw. Screaming and thrashing at the door begging Erin to stop, Felix had lost his mind trying to save her and broke down the door with a burst of adrenaline. Felix grabbed the razor out of her hands, cutting himself as he went but he didn’t care. He opened the window in the bathroom and threw the razor out into the black curtain of the night.
Erin just stared at Felix silently through a blurry wall of tears. Her best friend scooped her up, cradling her. Sitting on the edge of the bathtub he held her in his lap as he turned on the water and gently cleaned her arm quietly. Neither of them saying nothing, Erin helplessly watching him aid her.
“I think we should both get some sleep, it’s been a long night”, Felix mumbled quietly to her after he bandaged her arm.
“I don’t understand…I though you liked me.”
“I do, just not like that. Come on we can talk about it later.”
“I don’t want to talk about it later! I want to talk about it now”, Erin nearly screamed jerking her arm away from him then glared at him in a hurt manor.
“Erin…I-I like boys”, he confessed.
Erin just stared at him blankly as if her brain had been cut off by a switch. Felix’s different colored eyes searched her’s hoping she understood and wouldn’t push him away. He would be heart broken if she rejected him over this.
“I think we should go to bed”, no emotion reached Erin’s voice.
Felix nodded in agreement. Normally he’d sleep on the couch as to not upset or worry Erin’s parents but tonight he bunkered down on the floor beside her bed. They left the door open to not cause any kind of suspicious thoughts to bubble up from Erin’s parents. Neither one of them needed to be persecuted for sleeping in the room with someone opposite of their gender, even if they are just friends.
Erin lay on her bed staring the ceiling of her bedroom thinking about what Felix had said. She had fallen in love with the boy and it would be hard now to get him out her head. She still had feelings for him, even if he did say he liked boys. Erin fought with this all night trying to figure out a way to make this work. Depressed and defeated she glances at her phone and sighed and went to sleep for the 3 hours of the night that she had left.
Felix slept on his side on the rug by Erin’s bed, wrapped up in a blanket and nuzzling his head on a pillow. His mind too stressed with the things that had happened earlier decided to make him dream of more pleasant things, arousing things.
***
Erin was awakened by the alarm on her phone playing ‘My Life’ by Bon Jovi. The 17 year old girl yawned and stretched in her bed smiling and happy then rubbed the sleep out of her blue eyes. Then she looked at the bandages on her arm and last night came crashing down on her causing her to frown. Running her hand through her brown hair she rolled over onto her side and cast her eyes down on Felix who was lightly snoring on his back.
“What a lovely sight”, she mumbled sarcastically to herself and rolled her eyes and grinned. She grabbed her phone and took a few pictures of Felix and his morning wood.
Slipping off her bed she knelt next to Felix and licked his cheek playfully like he always did when she over slept when spending the night at his house. Felix mumbled in his sleep and rubbed his cheek and called out a boy’s name she couldn’t identify. Slightly frowning she pushed opened his eyelids and stared into his right blue eye and left brown eye. Of course he jerked away at this and they butted heads.
“Ow”, the both whimpered as they rubbed their heads.
“You shouldn’t wake people up that way!”
“Maybe you should cover that raging boner up and I wouldn’t have to wake you up that way before my parents come into my room and see!”
Felix looked down quickly and blushed and drew his legs up to his chest in embarrassment then gathered up his over night bag laying next to him to cover himself up as he got up off the floor and scurried into the bathroom.
Erin just watched him run off staring at the bronze skin of his back as he went, grinning and then rolled around on the floor giggling. Letting out a sigh she calmed down and laid on the floor for a bit before rolling into the sitting position and waited for Felix to come out. Felix emerged after his shower, pulling a purple tee down over his well defined chest and what looks like the beginning of abs.
Probably by the time summer comes and goes he’ll have himself a nice little 6 pack to flaunt around, Erin thought to herself and just looked up at him. He smiled at her when he noticed her eyeing him.
“Bathroom is all yours.”
“I hope you didn’t cum all over the place”, Erin teased as she got up and trotted into her bathroom.
Felix rolled his eyes and finished getting ready and waited on Erin.
“Want to car pool then you can bring me back to get my car”, Felix asked, knowing they probably need to talk more after school, in private.
“Yeah sure”, Erin smiled and nodded as they threw their school stuff in the back of her Jeep. “Oh should probably text Brittany and ask her if she’s going to school and needs a ride”, Erin tossed Felix her phone as she drove down the road.
“No need”, Felix grumbled.
Erin turned to see what he was talking about and saw Bryn roaring down the road on his bike, little Brittany clinging to him. Her face was pressed against the back of his classic leather jacket, grinning like she rather be no where else but there with him.
Erin rolled her eyes and turned them back to the road, “I’ll be glad when she gets out of her bad boy phase. He really isn’t good for her.”
“I agree, if I was her brother I’d be worried sick. I heard Mr. Biker Bastard has a thing about knives and likes to stab people.”
“I heard at a party he ordered some pizzas and the pizza guy asked for a tip and he stabbed him, took all his money then watched laughing as the poor guy dragged himself to his car and drove away.
“I’m sure he’s not just stabbing with his knife. Probably stabbing poor Brittany with his dick”, Felix snorted.
Erin cracked and smile and tried not to chuckle. She should probably ask her female friend if she and Bryn have had sex yet. Since Brittany has been canceling plans and skipping school occasionally because she’s been sick. Erin believed her too. She wasn’t avoiding anyone she really was sick. Erin hoped her friend hadn’t gotten herself pregnant, though she wouldn’t be surprised. It was High School after all.

Brody the Lurking Loner as he’s know as was standing quietly by a tree, the school campus buzzed with the chatter of teenagers. His fellow seniors were excited for it being their last day. He watched everyone intently, making comments and stereotypical remarks to himself in the privacy of his thoughts.
Brody’s eyes grew large as he saw his idol Felix emerge and walk across campus with his ditzy hipster friend Erin. He often times wish it was him instead of her walking with Felix and chatting with him. Offering him rides or Felix offering him rides or sharing jokes and laughing about them without a care in the world, things just weren’t fair. The duo walked right past him, his heart nearly stopped as Felix’s eyes glanced over his shoulder to sweep across the scene he was leaving as he entered the building before the bell rang.
How he wish he could say hello to Felix or that he’d say hi to him. Once every few weeks he’d get close enough to even touch the boy but would miss out on a chance to talk to him because his friends would sweep him away. Brody was pretty sure he’d freak him out anyways. Being a loner meant you knew everyone in a way but they had no clue who you were. With a sigh of defeat Brody stalked off inside, hoping to get a chance to see Felix again later today.
